Why Veer Baal Diwas is celebrated on 26 December ?
This day is celebrated to mark the martyrdom of Sahibzada Zorawar Singh Ji and Sahibzada Fateh Singh Ji.
It is noteworthy that the martyrdom of the four Sahibzadas is an integral part of the history of Sikhs.
Char Sahibzade means four sons or descendants.
These four Sahibzade were the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth guru of the Sikhs – Ajit Singh, Jujhar Singh, Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh.
Zorawar Singh and Fateh Singh remained steadfast to the Khalsa Panth and refused to accept Islam.
As a result, both of them were raised alive in a house on 26 December 1705 by Mughal Anna.
In his honor, “Jyoti Swaroop Gurdwara Sahib” was built in Fatehgarh Sahib.
The remaining two Sahibzade Ajit Singh and Jujhar Singh were martyred while fighting the Mughals at Chamkaur Sahib.
