Agnipath Yojana Entry Scheme

On 14 June 2022, Tuesday the defence minister , Rajnath Singh and Indian Army has announced the launch of the Agnipath Yojana to strengthen the Indian security forces and boost the strength of these forces.

Agnipath is a landmark scheme , keeping pace with the needs of India’s national security interests.

The scheme has been launched to allow Indian youth to serve the country by being a part of Indian military services – Indian army, Indian Navy ,and Indian Airforce for 4 years.

Beyond the time period the candidates will be eligible and allowed ( if they want) to be deployed as combatants in the key forward locations.

Those candidates who get selected through the agnipath army bharti scheme will be known as ” Agniveers”.

The Agneepath recruitment scheme has been launched to with an aim to train the Indian youth for new technologies .

This yojana will also help them to improve their health levels. And Moreover, It will help in increasing the employment opportunities in different sectors

Key Points of the Agnipath Scheme

  • The youth selected under the Agnipath scheme will be known as Agniveers
  • Agniveers will be enrolled for a duration of 4 years including training period
  • Agniveers will meet the medical eligibility conditions as applicable to respective categories / trades.
  • Agniveers will be given option to opt for enrolment in the regular cadre.
  • Upto 25% Agniveers from wach batch will be enrolled in the regular cadre of the Armed Forces.

Objective of the Agneepath Yojana

The main objective of the Agnipath Recruitment scheme is to provide a dream opportunity the young Indians to be a part of the glorious Indian Military service ( Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Airforce) and serve the nation.

This scheme will help to train the youth and to make a cut in retirement as well as in pensions.

The candidates( Agniveers) selected for this scheme will be able to train themselves with new technologies. These Agniveers will also get benefit in the employment opportunities.

The government is dealing with corporate companies regarding the employment opportunities for ‘Agniveers’ after completion of their 4 year term in the Indian Armed Forces. Note that after completing the 4 year service through Agnipath scheme, 25% candidates of the batch can continue their service in the military forces. Agniveers will be given option to opt for enrollment into regular cadre.

The government also expects to save a substantial amount of money through the scheme which will be used for military modernisation

During this period of service to the nation, the Agniveers will be imparted with various military skills and experience, discipline, physical fitness, leadership qualities, courage and patriotism.

Post this stint of four years, the Agniveers will be infused into the civil society where they can contribute immensely towards the nation building process.

The skills gained by each Agniveer will be recognised in a certificate to form part of his unique resume. Agniveers, on completion of the four year tenure in the prime of their youth, will be mature and self-disciplined with the realization to become better version of himself/herself both professionally as also personally.

The avenues and opportunities that will open up for their progress in the civil world after Agniveer tenure would certainly be a big plus towards nation building.

Moreover, the Seva Nidhi of approximately Rs 11.71 lakhs would aid the Agniveer to pursue his/her future dreams without the financial pressure, which is normally the case for young people from the financially deprived strata of society

Eligibility Criteria for Agnipath Entry Scheme

The candidates who are applying for the Agnipath Entry Scheme must have the following minimum eligibility criteria :

  • Age Limit : The candidate must be above 17.5 years of age and less than 23 years. ( Age Limit is 17.5- 23 years )
  • Education: The educational qualification for Agniveers will remain as in vogue for enrollment in various categories. {For example: For entry into General Duty (GD) soldier, the educational qualification is Class 10}.
  • Physical Criteria : Yet to be released by the official authorities.
  • Selection Criteria : For selection of candidates, the recruitment authorities will follow a transparent , centralised and automated procedures. The enrolment of the Agniveers will be as per the Service acts and Regulations
  • All Indian youth of all classes ( categories) are eligible to enroll.

This year a total of 46000 Agniveer will be recruited through recruitment rallies will be commence from Mid September ( exact dates yet to be released).

Note that there is a written test and physical test also for the recruitment of Agniveers.

Agnipath Scheme – Terms of Service

  • Agniveers can be posted in any regiment / unit / establishment
  • Agniveers would form a District Rank in the Armed Forces
  • A distinct insignia will be worn by Agniveers during their engagement period.
  • Agniveers entitled to honours and awards as per extant guidelines on the subject.

On Completion of Tenure

On completion of Tenure all candidates will be entitled ” Seva Nidhi Package” . All the candidates will get a Skill certificate and also credits in higher education.

The individuals, selected for enrolment in the Armed Forces as regular cadre, would be required to serve for a further engagement period of minimum 15 years .

It would be governed by the existing terms and conditions of service of Junior Commissioned Officers/Other Ranks in Indian Army and their equivalent in Indian Navy and Indian Air Force and that of Non Combatant enrolled in the Indian Air Force, as amended from time to time.

The scheme will lead to much more youthful and technically adept war fighting force by ensuring a fine balance between youthful and experienced personnel in the Armed Forces.

Seva Nidhi Package

On Completion of the engagement period of four years, “Agniveers” will be paid one time ” Seva Nidhi Package” .

This will be exempt from Income Tax. There shall be no entitlement to gratuity and pensionary benefits

Agnipath Yojana – Salary Package

The service under the agnipath yojana will be of 4 years. including the training period.

First year salary package of Rs 4.76 lakhs ( approx.) with upgradation of upto Rs 6.92 lakh(approx.) in the 4th year.

Monthly package in first Year : Rs 30,000 /-

Monthly package in fourth year ( after upgradation ) : Rs 40,000 /-

A package of approx. Rs 11.71 lakhs have been launched for the post. Agniveers will also be benefited with a non contributory Insurance cove of Rs 48 lakh.

Allowance : Agniveers will get allowances like Risk and Hardship, Ration, Dress , Travel Allowances as applicable

Death Compensation

  • Non -contributory life insurance cover of Rs 48 lakhs.
  • Additional Ex Gratia of Rs 44 Lakhs for death attributable to service
  • Pay for unreserved portion upto four years including ‘Seva Nidhi’ Component

Disability Compensation

  • Compensation based on percentage disability laid down by medical authorities
  • One time ex-grantia of Rs 44/25/15 lakhs for 100% / 755% /50% disability respectively

Agnipath Scheme : Terminal Benefits – Seva Nidhi Package

Each Agniveer to contribute 30% of monthly package to the individual’s ‘Agniveer Corpus Fund’.

On Completion of engagement period, one time Seva Nidhi package of approx. Rs 11.71 lakh will paid . ( It will be tax free)

Seva Nidhi Package shall comprise contribution by Agniveer, interest thereon and matching contribution from the government.

There is also an option for Bank loans for Agniveers. ( More details are yet to be released the official authorities. )
